Trapezium Area Calculator
Calculate Area & Perimeter
Calculate the area and perimeter of a trapezium (trapezoid) using the parallel sides and height.
Trapezium Dimensions
Formula
Area = (a + b) × h / 2
where: a, b = parallel sides, h = height
About Trapezium
A trapezium (trapezoid in US) is a quadrilateral with one pair of parallel sides. The parallel sides are called bases.
Properties
- • One pair of parallel sides
- • Sum of angles = 360°
- • Height is perpendicular to bases
- • Can be isosceles or scalene
Types of Trapezium
Isosceles Trapezium
Non-parallel sides are equal in length. Base angles are equal.
Scalene Trapezium
All sides have different lengths. No equal angles.
Right Trapezium
Has two adjacent right angles (90°).
Applications
Trapeziums are commonly found in:
- Architecture and building design
- Bridge construction (trapezoidal supports)
- Furniture design (tables, shelves)
- Land surveying and area calculation
- Engineering and structural design
Example Calculations
| Base 1 | Base 2 | Height | Area |
|---|---|---|---|
| 10 | 6 | 4 | 32 |
| 8 | 5 | 3 | 19.5 |
| 12 | 8 | 5 | 50 |
| 15 | 10 | 6 | 75 |
